In Islington Money Goes on Trees

3.56.24pm GMT Wed 23rd Feb 2005

Islington Liberal Democrat Council will invest £160,000 in a programme of tree maintenance across the borough to ensure that Islington stays green.

The scheme would include trees growing both in parks and on public highways, ensuring that they stay healthy, and don't damage their surrounding environment.

Councillor Bridget Fox, Executive Member for Sustainability said

"We love our trees in Islington and have fulfilled our pledge to plant more trees to improve our streets. It is obviously important that trees old and new are maintained.

"Many people feel strongly about the trees on their streets and keeping them healthy and ensuring that they are properly maintained will protect them for the future generations."
